Do I have mycoplasma genitalium?
Mycoplasma genitalium is a bacterium which you can contract through unsafe sex, among other things. Women infected with mycoplasma genitalium may experience symptoms such as altered discharge, burning sensation when urinating, abdominal pain, pain during sex and blood loss after sexual contact. After some time, the symptoms and thus the infection disappear on their own; treatment is therefore not necessary and is only prescribed in exceptional cases.
Symptoms that men with a mycoplasma genitalium infection may experience are pain or a burning sensation when urinating and discharge from the penis. Treatment is also not necessary for men in many cases because the bacteria disappear on their own after some time.
