What is PrEP?
We can give you a prescription to order your PrEP medication. But if you need more information about PrEP first, we're happy to help you! PrEP is a pill that prevents someone acquiring HIV. It's a safe, effective and scientifically-proven medication.
Who is our PrEP clinic for?
- People on the GGD waiting list.
- People who can't get PrEP care from their doctor.
- People who want to manage their PrEP anonymously from home.
We adhere to the national PrEP guideline and so can offer PrEP to anyone who is eligible. And that's without a waiting list.

We do not have a waiting list!
You can purchase your starter kit right away. You'll receive a medical questionnaire from us and we will send you all the tests. Once the results are known and approved, you'll receive a prescription of 30 or 90 tablets.

Are you running out of tablets?
You'll need to take an HIV test and you may also need other STI tests. If your HIV test result is negative, we'll send you a 90-day prescription.
When should I take PrEP?
Do you have sex regularly or maybe you're not sure exactly when you'll have sex? Then daily PrEP could suit you. Do you know in advance when you might have sex, for example when you go to a party, go on a date or visit a club? If so, you can choose PrEP around sex (intermittent PrEP). So:
- Take PrEP medication every day for continuous protection or
- Take PrEP medication only when you anticipate having sex

When does PrEP start protecting you from HIV?
For anal sex, a person is protected from HIV after taking daily PrEP for 5 to 7 days. To be protected immediately, start with two pills at the same time, in the same way as taking PrEP around sex (intermittent use). A person is protected as early as 2 hours after taking the two pills. For vaginal sex, daily PrEP needs to be started at least 7 days before sex because the active ingredients can take a bit longer to build up in the vaginal tissues. This also applies to trans men who have vaginal sex.
To stop PrEP safely, the advice is to continue taking PrEP for at least 2 days after anal sex. After vaginal sex, take PrEP for at least 7 days.
How does our PrEP clinic work?
1. Request an E-consultation
2. Take the home tests for STIs, HIV and kidney function
3. Send your sample to our lab for FREE.

I want to start PrEP
To start PrEP, schedule a consultation. This will be about 5 to 10 minutes. During the consultation, we'll go through the answers to your health questions and explain the process. We keep this information so our doctor can review it along with your STI test results. A prescription can then be issued. We work according to national PrEP guidelines.
